Distribute Kings exclusive interview with Suzanne Gladstone. 1 Million Downloads for song titled "I Blew A Wish'"

1. Distribute Kings: WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Suzanne Gladstone: Born in the U.S.A., Oceanside, California and grew up in San Diego, CA USA

2. Distribute Kings: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING MUSIC?

Suzanne Gladstone:I’ve been singing since I was a little girl. It came naturally to me, so I’ve always had a strong passion for singing and music. So, I would say over 20 years for sure but as a solo singer-songwriter artist, I’ve only been doing it on my own for about 9 months now. “I Blew A Wish” was my very first release as a solo artist and I’m very proud of it.

3. Distribute Kings: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO DO MUSIC?

Suzanne Gladstone: I had a hard childhood and I struggled with depression and feeling lonely since I was very shy as well, so I used music as a way of releasing my inner anxieties to cope with my pain. I learned I was also good at writing when I was about 12, through a school project and ever since then, my writing took off into a world of its own. Writing poetry truly helped me say what I was feeling in a beautiful way that could touch others and help me to heal. My poetry was usually separate to my singing because I didn’t know how to play an instrument at the time, but I would come up with melodies sometimes. Now I feel so happy to be able to connect those two things that I love so much and put them together to make my own unique sound. I play a little guitar, but I was self-taught through YouTube videos, I don’t play out with it but that doesn’t mean I never will. I do feel proud that I took it to the next level, considering I never thought I could even play one chord. So, if I can do it, you can too! Music is a way of life for me and I look forward to a bright future.

 4. Distribute Kings: WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC ARTIST & WHY?

Suzanne Gladstone: If I had to answer that question now, I’d probably say “Adele”, but I haven’t been listening to the radio as much because I’ve been busy writing. I love her voice, her classic look, and especially her deep passionate lyrics. I feel I share many commonalities with her writing style and emotional struggles. I also think the same about “Kelly Clarkson” and “Carrie Underwood”. I feel I have similar attributes to my vocals and passion when I sing. The main thing is the way they can tell a story so well and their passionate power vocals drive the song. Honestly, I’ve always struggled with this question because I can’t pick one artist or one style of music that truly inspired me since it was through my own pain that guided me, but I did grow up mostly singing to “Shania Twain”, “Mariah Carey”, “Whitney Houston”, “Garth Brooks”, “Celine Dion”, “The Dixie Chicks”, and many more. I sang to church music and to the radio listening to all different stations from Oldies to Country to Hip Hop, Dance Music, Classical, Rock, Pop, you name it. I have a wide variety of influences, especially growing up with my Grandparents. I’ve always had a strong passion for oldies music (50’s, 60’s, 70’s) and a love of vintage fashion. I love classic songs by “The Eagles”, “The Beatles”, “The Everly Brothers”, “Simon & Garfunkel”, and oldies classics from groups like “The Ronettes”, “Ben E. King”, “Aretha Franklin”, “Patsy Cline”, and bands/solo artists like “Maroon 5”, “Bruno Mars”, “Alicia Keys”, “Christina Aguilera”, “Pink”…I just love great vocals and beautiful or catchy melodies. I think a great song is a great song no matter what the genre is. I love it all!

5.  Distribute Kings: WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO DO A COLLAB WITH?

Suzanne Gladstone: “Garth Brooks”, “Blake Shelton”, “Shania Twain”, “Reba McEntire”, “Kelly Clarkson”, “Adele” or anyone who has a great voice or writing ability.

6. Distribute Kings: WHAT WAS THE NAME OF YOUR FIRST SONG?

Suzanne Gladstone: My first song that I ever wrote and completed was called “I Can’t Forget Your Name” but as a solo artist my first song is called “I Blew A Wish”.

 7. Distribute Kings: WOULD YOU RATHER BE A INDEPENDENT OR MAINSTREAM ARTIST & WHY?

Suzanne Gladstone: Well, I think as a mainstream artist I could reach more fans. Having that kind of financial backing with the marketing exposure wouldn’t hurt but I think it depends on the label and if they are willing to let me shine as an artist. If they really had my best interests at heart and loved my style as an artist, then I’d most likely be happy to join. Signing to a label is not what it used to be anymore, so unless it’s a great deal, I think there are many more avenues to do it on your own nowadays if you have the drive, financial backing and talent. As an Independent artist, I can create my own ideas and be unique but without the huge financial backing I am going to be limited in how much exposure I can receive. I think it’s harder as an Independent artist, but it’s good to learn the steps and know you can do it on your own (meaning you have a great team of supporters). I just keep doing it because I love it and I’ll keep going either way, so if someone wants to sign me to their label, let’s talk!

8. Distribute Kings: NAME 1 MUSIC ARTIST THAT YOU WOULD BRING BACK FROM THE DEAD & WHY?

Suzanne Gladstone: I would bring back “Whitney Houston” because she had one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard, and she inspired me with the way she could control a whole audience with her amazingly gorgeous smooth silky power vocals that had everyone wrapped around her fingers and mesmerized. Her voice changed the world. I know she got into drugs and maybe lost some of that towards the end but in the beginning, she could conquer the world and she did. I don’t think anyone can truly replace her as an artist. There are many beautiful voices out there, but she held her own. I feel that with her singing and acting abilities I’d like to follow in her footsteps but not the last part. I plan to live forever. Ha!

9. Distribute Kings: HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE A DISTRIBUTE KINGS PLATINUM ARTIST?

Suzanne Gladstone: I feel amazed! I’m honored to be a part of your music site and to have the opportunity to be interviewed. Music is my life; it is my heart and soul. To have others believe in me and what I have created means so much as an artist. When I create a song, it comes from my head, my heart, my soul and it’s a simple mixture of thoughts and emotions that turns into a beautiful message that I get to share with the world in hopes that they will love it too and feel connected to me and my lyrics. I hope my next song will hit Platinum as well, check it out here on Distribute Kings – called “Barely Felt the Fall”. I hope to be interviewing here for my next song soon! Much love, Suzanne Gladstone
